Witch Hunter' is the second studio album by German heavy metal band Grave Digger, and it cemented the group’s status as one of the leading acts in the early German metal scene. Building on the raw energy of their debut 'Heavy Metal Breakdown', this follow-up delivers tighter songwriting, faster tempos, and a darker, more aggressive tone.
From the opening track 'Witch Hunter', it’s clear that Grave Digger was aiming for something heavier and more menacing. The riffs are sharper, the drums more frantic, and Chris Boltendahl’s vocals take on a raspier, more sinister edge. Songs like 'Night Drifter', 'Love Is a Game', and their cover of Alice Cooper’s 'School’s Out' show a band stretching their creative muscles while staying true to their raw, headbanging roots.
Stylistically, 'Witch Hunter' leans into a speed metal direction, foreshadowing elements of power and thrash that would soon dominate the European scene. The production remains gritty, but the band sounds more confident and cohesive, delivering tracks that are both catchy and forceful.
